Stock in focus after signing PPA with Solar Energy Corporation for Solar Projects 


One of India’s leading power stock companies engaged in the generation, transmission, and trading of power has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited for 700 MW Solar Power Projects 

Stock Movement: 

With a market capitalization of Rs. 1,15,492.54 crore, the shares of JSW Energy Limited were trading at Rs. 660.80 per equity share, down nearly around 1.12 percent from its previous day’s close price of Rs. 669.80. 

What Happened 

On Wednesday trading section, JSW Energy Limited’s step-down subsidiary of JSW Renew Energy Eleven Limited has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”) with Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (“SECI”) for ISTS connected 700 MW solar power capacity awarded under SECI Tranche XIII. 

The company’s PPA is signed for the supply of power for a period of 25 years with a tariff of ₹2.56/kWh. These projects are expected to be commissioned within 24 months. 

Future Outlooks: 

JSW Energy operates 7.9 GW capacity through thermal, hydro, and renewable energy plants. The company will expand to 10 GW by 2025. JSW Energy maintains 16.2 GWh of storage capacity using batteries and hydro-pumped storage. The firm targets 20 GW generation and 40 GWh storage by 2030. JSW Energy commits to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Recent quarter results and ratios: 

The company’s revenue has decreased from Rs. 2,928 crore in Q1 FY24 to Rs. 2,879 crore in Q1 FY25, which is down by 1.67 percent YOY. The net profit of JSW Energy Limited has also grown by 84.14 percent, from Rs. 290 crore in Q1 FY24 to Rs. 534 crore in Q1 FY25. 

JSW Energy Limited’s revenue and net profit have grown at a CAGR of 4.68 percent and 20.32%, respectively, over the last five years. 

In terms of return ratios, the company’s ROCE and ROE should be 8.59% and 8.40%, respectively. The debt-to-equity ratio of the company is to be 1.52, and EPS is to be Rs. 11.7.
