In an innovative move to simplify the tire purchasing process, Canadian Tire has launched CeeTee, an AI-driven shopping assistant powered by Microsoft technology. As per a report by Microsoft, this tool aims to connect customers with the right tires before they even set foot in a store.

Streamlined Tire Shopping Experience

Canadian Tire’s CeeTee, available through the retailer’s app, offers a conversational interface where customers can chat via text or voice. This AI assistant helps users by asking questions and suggesting tires based on their responses. It can also check stock availability at local stores and provide personalized recommendations, including bestsellers and items on sale.

Launched in March 2024, CeeTee has already been embraced by nearly 10,000 users, recording over 700,000 chat sessions. The AI tool utilizes Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service and GPT-4, combining internal product data with insights from the language model to guide customers effectively.

Addressing Retail Challenges with AI

Canadian Tire’s digital strategy, as explained by Ilana Santone, Senior Vice President of Digital and Connected Retail, focuses on minimizing friction in the customer journey. Given that a significant portion of their transactions begin online, the development of CeeTee was a strategic decision to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction.

While Canadian Tire holds a substantial 18% share of Canada’s tire market, the integration of CeeTee is seen as a means to further capture market share and improve service for the 2.2 million active app users. The company recognizes the potential of generative AI to tackle complex retail challenges, especially in connecting customers with suitable products.

AI’s Role in Retail Transformation

The retail industry has been increasingly adopting AI technologies to enhance various operations, from inventory management to customer service. Sudip Mazumder of Publicis Sapient highlights the trend of retailers leveraging generative AI to boost customer interaction and productivity.

Canadian Tire’s CeeTee exemplifies this trend by offering a streamlined and engaging tire shopping experience. The tool’s ability to facilitate meaningful dialogues with customers positions retailers as consultative sellers, guiding them throughout their shopping journey.

Future Prospects and Expansion

Canadian Tire’s partnership with Microsoft is part of a broader AI strategy aimed at driving innovation in the retail sector. The company has already implemented AI solutions for internal processes and is now exploring broader applications of AI, including expanding CeeTee’s capabilities to other product categories.

While the current focus remains on tires, Canadian Tire plans to study customer interactions with CeeTee to refine its offerings and potentially introduce the tool to additional platforms and channels. This initiative underscores Canadian Tire’s commitment to enhancing customer experience through technological advancement.
